What are the benefits?
Gaining confidence in public speaking, using a structured and proven syllabus within a group of like-minded people who learn and have fun together. Can I come along as a guest?
Yes. We are always pleased to have guests. There's no fee and you don't have to speak - unless you want to , in which case you'll be welcome.
Where is Solent Speakers based?
Our regular meeting venue is The Titchfield Community Centre, Mill Street, Titchfield P014 4AB (01329 842933) approx - 10 miles north-west of Portsmouth,via M27 Junction 11, and 15 miles from Southampton, via M27 Junction 9 /A27

How do I become a member?
If you've come along as a guest and decided you'd like to join, speak to our Membership Vice President or any of the other club officers. Application is open to you if you are over 18; membership applications are usually processed quite quickly.
What sorts of backgrounds do members have?
All walks of life, employed, unemployed and retired - people with some experience of speaking and people with none. That's part of the richness of belonging to the club.
Can I earn a qualification by joining Toastmasters?
Yes, there are four levels within the communication 'track' and two levels within the 'leadership track'. When granted,
Toastmasters International will, if you request, write to your employer notifying them of what you have achieved.

Is it like a 'night school' course?
It's quite different. Whilst there is a structured roadmap 'syllabus', you proceed at a rate of your choosing - you don't have to attend every meeting. But the more you do, the more you'll get out of it - and the more fun you'll have.
Are they any other clubs in neighbouring areas?
Yes and there are new ones 'springing up' all the time.

How much does membership cost?
There is an initial joining fee of £15. Thereafter, your annual membership subscription is £70 payable by direct debit in two half yearly instalments in March and September. The first instalment of your initial membership will be pro-rated depending on the month you join.
