about our club

Solent Speakers, launched in December 2002, We provide opportunities for people to boost their self-confidence, acquire and develop public speaking skills and become better communicators and leaders. We are affiliated to Toastmasters International, the leading, worldwide, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to developing communication and leadership skills.

We are the only club of its kind in our area to provide structured practice and constructive feedback in an informal, no-risk environment.

If you want to 'fire the fear' and find the fun, try us out!

We are a community club - helping individuals (or groups) to 'make their messages memorable'

Like our parent organisation, we are a not-for-profit organisation.

If you think we might be able to help, please contact us. Our ‘catchment area’ includes: Portsmouth & Central South Hampshire, Meon Valley, Southampton and The Solent

a typical evening

WE ENJOY OURSELVES, WE LEARN AND WE HAVE FUN !

Typically, there are five segments.

  • Prepared speeches from one of the series of project manuals

  • The refreshment interval for members and guests to socialise and network

  • Table Topics – when members are called to give impromptu speeches – each of which receives feedback

  • All prepared and impromptu speeches receive individual constructive feedback and the whole evening is assessed by a General Evaluator. Speeches and evaluations are allocated designated timings, monitored by the Timekeeper

  • We recognise good performance by voting and giving an award memento for the best performance in the prepared speech, impromptu speech and evaluation categories.

a multicultural club
